Butter Beer for Adult Witches and Wizards
In celebration of the final Harry Potter film, my muggle mate Annie and I thought we would try our hand at making butter beer. The Hogwarts-friendly version of this recipe calls for butterscotch syrup, butter, and soda. We thought it would be fun to spice things up a little, so we added some schnapps. Holy Hogsmeade, this stuff is delicious!
Butter Beer
Makes one pitcher
- 8 ounces Butterscotch Schnapps
- 2 liter Cream Soda
- 1 small container Marshmallow Creme.
In a small bowl, combine 4 tablespoons of marshmallow creme and one tablespoon of butterscotch schnapps. Microwave for 30 seconds, then stir together and set aside. Pour 8 ounces of schnapps in the bottom of a pitcher, then fill the rest up with cream soda and stir gently to mix together. Pour marshmallow mixture on top. As you pour the butter beer into drinking glasses, the marshmallow will aerate, creating a creamy foam on top of the drink.
Drink responsibly and always remember that drinking and flying your broomstick…or driving makes you a douche bag.

I’m not sure how to describe it. It’s a kind of soda drink. You could just use club soda in the recipe. I hope that helps!

This sounds great to me, but my husband’s idea of butterbeer is to take a good hops-y beer and wave a stick of butter over it and then drink the beer!

I’ve bought these ingredients and intend to make it tonight, but I don’t see how it’ll look the same as yours. The marshmallow creme is white and the Schnapps and cream soda are see through. Is your Schnapps coloured?
The cream soda and schnapps I bought were both brown. I know some cream sodas are clear and I would imagine some brands of schnapps are too. It should taste the same. Good Luck!
